TAITCO didn't start with a windshield. It started on a used car lot in Detroit in 1953 — and everything we do today still runs on what was learned there.
Billy Tait grew up in the car business. His grandfather owned a used car dealership in Detroit, Michigan, starting in 1953 — and Billy's first job on that lot came in 1977, at an age young enough that his first assignment was looking after the guard dogs. Over the years that followed, his grandfather taught him every side of the business, from the ground up.
What stuck with Billy most wasn't the sales floor — it was watching the skilled trade vendors who kept the lot running: the specialists who handled automobile reconditioning, working fast and working right, job after job, car after car. That's where the real craft was, and that's where Billy's interest took root.
Decades later, when it came time to build something of his own, windshield repair made sense on every level. It was a low-investment way in — and Billy already understood, better than most people starting out, exactly how vendors earn a dealership's trust and keep it: show up, do the work right, every single time, at the volume a dealer's lot demands.
To do it right, Billy went back to school — attending AGU (Auto Glass University) and graduating with the certifications to move from rock chip repair into full auto glass service: replacement, and ADAS calibration for the cameras and sensors modern windshields carry. He built that transition with the direct help of mentors and support from across the industry, and TAITCO Auto Glass Service is what came out of it.
